The Steven B. Achelis Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. The foundation was formed by Steve Achelis in 1990 as his "tithe" to help make the world a better place.

Steve's Foundation is a small private foundation with limited resources. Typical grants range between $500 and $5,000 with an average grant of $2,000. Total annual grants are approximately $50,000.

The following guidelines are presented for your information, but we are not considering new grants at this time.

Although Steve's Foundation is small, it receives several hundred funding requests each year. Due to the large number of requests and the small size of our foundation, we are not able to reply to funding requests. Funding requests are typically evaluated once each year (usually in May).

The following are the guidelines for funding. Grants are made on a selective basis using these general guidelines. These guidelines are subject to change periodically within the purposes outlined in the Articles of Incorporation.

  • Organizations that improve opportunities for America’s disadvantaged people under the premise that few are entitled to a handout, yet all are entitled to a hand up.

  • Organizations that seek to improve people’s lives for the long term based on the premise that if you give someone a fish, they’ll be fed today but if you teach someone to fish, they’ll be fed for life.

  • Organizations that focus on children in the belief that the earlier assistance is provided, the more leverage that assistance will create.

  • Cost effective programs where a small contribution can make a significant difference.

  • Organizations where a large percentage of funding goes directly to achieve these goals, rather than to fundraising and administrative expenses.

  • Charitable, non-profit, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organizations.

To help us evaluate your request, be sure to  include:

  • A description of the services provided.

  • A copy of your 501(c)(3) IRS ruling letter.

  • A breakdown of revenue sources and expenditures.
